Foto Filmic Blog Review
Blog: Foto Filmic
Artist: Nate Mathews

Foto Filmic is a photography blog with a series of shortlisted photographers, a film talk series, and a print shop. It is very simplistic to look at and easy to navigate. This is a photography blog that posts a film talk series every Thursday.
The artist I looked at is named Nate Mathews, and he is a Chicago based photographer, sculptor, artist, and educator that is teaching photography as an Assistant Professor of art at Northeastern Illinois University. He takes pictures of poorly designed architecture that people try to predicament of said architecture. He shoot with a 4x5 field camera because he thinks that he can perfect the images more than if he was using digital. I enjoyed his pieces very much mainly because it made one question what has happened or what is going to happen to these places.

Light Leaked Blog Review
Blog: Light Leaked
Artist: Sarah Malakoff
Monday, October 28, 2013

Light Leaked is a photography blog, and visually it is not very exciting to me. That was one of the first things that I noticed. There is nothing that jumps out at they, drawing the reader toward it. It is very simply organized, with the entire articles on the home page. There is easy navigation between months on the right. This blog sight posts about once a week.
The blog post I am reviewing is over the artist Sarah Malakoff and her work entitled Second Nature. It is about how our lifestyles, personalities, and identities through our decor that we choose to display throughout our homes. She describes our homes as either a refuge from the outdoors, or just a recreation of them. She also invites the viewer to imagine what kind of people might live in these places. I really enjoyed this one because I've always payed to things that people own. By looking at the items that one owns tells a lot about that person.

Aperture Blog Review
Blog: Aperture
Article: A Conversation with Jakob Trollbäck

I enjoyed this blog very much. I felt like it was a very busy looking layout, but it made me want to look more and discover what all this blog had to offer. This blog post just about everyday and their main posts consist of art news or interviews with artists. This is a photography blog.
The article is about a custom installation by Jakob Trollbäck on one of the world's largest high-resolution video walls in InterActiveCorps headquarter in New York City, for Apeture's 1/1 benefit and auction. In the article, Jason Quincy Bailey had an interview with Jakob Trollbäck about his work as a whole. Trollbäck talked a lot about how music inspired his work, especially since he was a musician himself. He said in the interview, "I think that what I’m doing in motion is sort of a visual variation of doing music. It’s the same story, but you’re telling it with visuals instead of notes." This is what really intrigued me about the article and made me want to read. Being a very musical person myself, I could really relate to all that he had to say during the interview.

Glasstire Blog Review

Article: Return to Earth at the Nasher Sculpture Center, 10-22-13

This blog is all about visual art in Texas. The blog as a whole was fairly easy to navigate but it seems very crowded at the homepage. There is so much going on that the eye almost seems to be overwhelmed. This blog posts everyday and it is an art and photography blog.
The article Return to Earth at the Nasher Sculpture Center is about a ceramic sculpture display there at the Nasher Sculpture Center. The title of this showcase was Return to Earth: Ceramic Sculpture of Fontana, Melotti, Miró, Noguchi and Picasso, 1943-1963. The blog post was by Lucia Simek, who was very thrilled by all of the pieces. She speaks passionately about a few of the works in this showcase including Even the Centipede, which is a work of brown stoneware objects that have been fastened to a vertical wooden pole like vertebrae forming a spine. She also speaks about the above picture, entitled The Policeman, and how it looks as if a baton is dangling in the center, ready to be used.

Lenscratch Blog Review
The title of the blog to review this week is entitled Lenscratch.
The title of the article is Tami Bone: Of Magic and Myth.

This blog is very easy to navigate as it has recent articles all appearing on the right. It is visually appealing and easy to read through. They post fairly often and focus on recent art news.
The article is about the latest work by Tami Bone entitled Mythos. The artist was born in South Texas and now lives in Austin, Texas where she uses photography to express herself and tell her story. She likes to combine her personal life stories with folk lore to give her photos a unique feel. She has recently won many awards including Best of the Best Emerging Fine Art Photographers by BW Gallerist.
Her work, Mythos, is all about her childhood in South Texas but is filled with great mystery. In her works, she is trying to break the boundaries of her "normal" through her imagination. This work shows her belief that our stories, whether true or imagined, have the power to mold our lives until it inevitably becomes our life.

Blog/Article Review
This is a photo taken by Lauren Fair Photography. The blog post that it is featured in is entitled HALEY + ANDREW \\ A STORMY BEACH ENGAGEMENT SESSION.
The blog is all about the photography done by Lauren Fair Photography. The site is very organized, grouping different projects into separate categories for easy navigation. Lauren Fair Photography mainly does engagement photos. This blog is just a photography blog.
The article is all about the engagement of a young man and woman named Andrew and Haley. The photos feature the two on a beach right before a storm. The photos are all very simplistic and vintage in a sense, which I love. I was very interested in this blog because it has some of the settings that I could envision myself wanting to do.

Portraits of Self, Portraits of Others

This portrait is by Dorothea Lange. She was best known for her photographs of unemployed men during the great depression and of migrant workers. I like this photograph because one can feel the heart ache that is being felt during this time. The concerned look on the woman's face and the children leaning on her makes the viewer have a sense of what they felt during that time.

This portrait is by Steve McCurry who is one of the most famous portrait photographers best known for his color photography. I like this photo because it allows one to dive into a world that is unknown to them and have a visual what that experience might be like.

This is a 20x24 Polaroid shot taken by Mary Ellen Mark, who has received many awards for her art. I enjoy this piece simply because of the uniqueness of the piece.

This is a portrait of Grace Kelly in Phillipe Halsman's work entitled Jump, which is one of his most famous works. I like this picture because it has a sense of innocence in it. It shows how much, not matter who you are, simply jumping in mid air can be.

This is a portrait of Louis Armstrong by Richard Avedon, who was the first staff photographer for the New York Times. This piece made me laugh because I can not decide whether or not the motion blur is on purpose or if Louis just could not sit still. All in all, I think it captures the essence of Louis pretty well.
